Huet Thomas
Racing Consultant, France
Thomas Huet’s career as a jockey is marked by impressive achievements and a wealth of international experience that sets him apart in the racing world. Born in 1983, Thomas moved to Chantilly, France, at the age of 16 to attend the renowned Le Moulin à Vent apprentice jockey school, a stepping stone that would propel him into a successful career. He began riding at 17 and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a professional jockey just two years later.
Thomas’ early apprenticeship under Gérard Collet helped him refine his riding skills, and he soon became known for his tactical awareness, consistency, and calmness under pressure. Over the course of his career, Thomas rode in numerous countries and accumulated over 440 victories in Europe, Mauritius, and Dubai. His versatility allowed him to succeed in a variety of racing conditions, from turf to all-weather tracks, and in flat and stakes races of all levels.
His 2012 season was a highlight of his career. That year, he secured a prestigious Group 2 victory and finished a respectable 5th in the Prix du Jockey Club, one of France’s most coveted Group 1 races. This performance, among others, earned him recognition as one of the most promising jockeys on the European circuit.
However, Thomas’ career took a significant turn in 2013 when he traveled to Sydney, Australia, for what was initially intended to be a three-month stay during the Australian winter season. Quickly adapting to the Australian racing scene, he found success and chose to extend his stay, ultimately spending four years in Sydney. It was here that Thomas forged strong working relationships with some of Australia’s top trainers, including Gai Waterhouse, the "Queen of the Turf," Paul Perry, and Peter Snowden. Working primarily at Randwick, one of Australia’s most iconic racecourses, Thomas earned a reputation as a determined and reliable jockey.
One of Thomas’ career highlights in Australia was his partnership with Artistry, a horse with whom he secured victory in the Group 3 at Rosehill, one of Sydney’s leading tracks. This victory was one of many in Australia, where he rode nearly 200 winners across a range of stakes races. His time in Australia helped him gain valuable experience in one of the most competitive racing environments in the world.
Thomas was well-respected for his ability to adapt to different racing styles and conditions. He rode at some of Australia’s premier race meetings, including the Sydney Autumn Carnival and the Melbourne Spring Carnival, and had the opportunity to race alongside some of the best jockeys in the world, competing at the highest level in Group 1 races.
By the end of 2016, however, Thomas had made the decision to retire from race riding due to ongoing back issues. His transition from the saddle to behind-the-scenes roles was a natural one, given his extensive knowledge of the racing industry. He became a jockey’s agent in 2020, using his experience to guide and manage the careers of several talented jockeys, including Fabrice Veron, Thomas Trullier, Pacaut Coralie, Fabio Branca, and Cyrille Stefan.
In addition to his work as an agent, Thomas also ventured into the bloodstock industry, working as a Bloodstock Agent with Yohea Bloodstock. His deep understanding of the horses he once rode has allowed him to provide expert guidance when it comes to purchasing and managing racehorses, an extension of his passion for the sport.
Even after his retirement from race riding, Thomas remains deeply involved in racing by riding trackwork at Lamorlaye, close to Chantilly, and staying active in the racing community.
